For about 15 years, I’ve returned to shopping (mostly) at thrift shops. I feel that it’s a political statement – no manufacturer will gain monetarily.
AND… the clothing and other items are cheaper.
Absolutely!! I have been a committed thrift shopper for 20 years now. Every once in a while I think I’ll “treat myself” to something new, and I always walk away shaking my head at the outrageous prices and limited selections in new clothing stores.
I also think that when you buy used, you end up with a selection that’s already had the lemons weeded out… you know those things that fade/stretch/shrink/fall apart after a few washes. My experience is that you end up with much better quality for a much lower price… who can beat that?
Yes, I agree too. We buy seccond hand clothing for about 10 years now and I never had a better collection of clothing than since than! Last week for example, my husband found a lovely long wintercoat for 2,50 euro (about 2.50 dollar too)that still is available in a local store for about 149 euro’s! It looks like noone ever had it on, like new. Also I found a wintercoat from a very luxurios desinger from Germany that is available on the internet for over 500 euro. You can inmage our joy! We not only love the look and fit of these clothing, it is also the fun of seeing those ‘real’store prices. Part of the joy of buying seccond hand is the ‘hunt’itself…
I also agree on the fact that seccond hand clothing (and bedding and thrift store items too) is that it is already used and stayed in a good condition. That means simply that is is strong. And that is what we want! After wearing our clothes for a long time, we can recycle it into other things or give it away to others if it’s still fine.
